ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
In January 2023, the eldest son of the Darville Family, Mana, was diagnosed with ‘primary intracranial sarcoma’, an extremely rare and aggressive brain cancer that very few have ever survived.
He wasn’t expected to make it more than 8 weeks.
Despite the grim prognosis, a journey unfolded that defied the odds — three grueling surgeries, spanning 2 continents, a daily regimen of countless therapies, all against a backdrop of Mana’s undeniable will……
Mana and his family turned 8 weeks into 9 and a half months.
During this time, they witnessed genuine miracles. Post surgery, Mana was wheelchair bound and unable to walk or move his right arm. In just a few short months of non-stop rehab, that same boy was doing ninja rolls off the bed, wrestling with his brothers and even rock climbing. Much to the shock of his Doctors, Mana not only got out of his wheelchair, but re-learned how to run!
This dedicated family dropped everything, uprooting to move halfway around the world, to seek out the best possible treatment & doctors for their boy. They spent their entire life savings, along with the sizeable funds raised to help cover the mountain of medical expenses.
Gratefully, these resources bought invaluable time and a quality of life for Mana that spared him much of the physical pain associated with his diagnosis.
But,
Time is not promised.
Last month, Mana exhaled his final breath wrapped tightly in the arms of his Mama & Papa.
In his brief 10 years, Mana touched the lives of a community of people that spans the entire globe.
The ripples of his magnificent life serves as a poignant reminder of the power of community, the wisdom of fun, and the importance of not taking our finite breaths for granted.
The Peace that now tempers the Darville families pain, stems from the knowledge that they gave EVERYTHING. The army of support, that rallied around Mana provided the means to leave “no stone unturned.”
Loosing a child is one of the greatest heartbreaks any human can go through. Between the pressure of individual grief, medical expenses & the countless challenges associated, the statistics say that 85% of families who loose a child end up separating.
I share this because witnessing the grace with which this family has navigated this most difficult time, is nothing short of inspirational.
We, the closest friends of the Darville family, The Mana Ohana, have created this fundraiser to allow them to grieve with the dignity they deserve.
Without the added burdens of enormous medical debt & the threat of needing to sell their house to cover costs.
For some of you, financial contributions may not be feasible and that’s perfectly okay.
You’re love, prayers and SHARE’S are equally valuable in helping them achieve their new mission of spreading Mana’s magic & legacy of love, as far as possible!
